Our downtown Safety Ambassadors are on the ground seven days a week in six downtown neighborhoods assisting visitors, residents, workers and homeless individuals. From providing directions to out-of-towners, to aiding downtown’s unsheltered population, this dedicated team helps keep downtown safe, welcoming and livable.

Due to COVID-19, MID services are operating in a modified capacity with restricted hours. Please fill out this form to make a request or call 206-441-3303 during our new hours of operation (see below). After hours, you can leave a detailed message, and we’ll follow up during our next shift.

The MID-funded Safety Team provides the following services:

  • Customer service and wayfinding
  • Transit information
  • Safety escorts
  • Referrals to human services
  • Coordination to clean debris from sidewalks
  • Public safety information and crime prevention through environmental design services for ratepayers

A big thanks to all ambassadors who have braved a very wet winter to provide service in our parks, public spaces and to residents, employees, visitors and people in need downtown.

Parks Team Ambassador of the Month: Tina

Tina was originally hired to oversee McGraw Square, Pine Street Plaza and Bell Street Park. Since coming on board, her diligence and talent helping park patrons led to an expanded scope of work, including duties in Westlake Park and Occidental Square Park. She stepped up to fulfill these new responsibilities with a great attitude and determination to get things done, especially ensuring the parks are clean and inviting for all.

Tina has great suggestions and a good eye for potential improvements, and is always ready to help with directions or a quick chat and an infectious laugh.

Trash removal from sidewalks, alleys and curb edges; quick-response animal and human waste cleanup; syringe removal; alley cleaning; and welfare checks on individuals in need.

Monday-Sunday, 7:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m.
