Downtown Seattle is now home to 314,000 jobs – more than double any city in the Puget Sound region outside of Seattle. To attract top talent, employers are locating and expanding downtown. New positions are opening at a rapid rate, and downtown accounts for the vast majority of new jobs in Seattle.
Net office space occupancy increased by 16 million square feet between 2010 and 2018 – the equivalent of adding eleven new Columbia Towers. In that time, downtown saw more new space added than the entire office inventory existing downtown in the mid-1980’s. Downtown Seattle accounted for nearly all (87 percent) of office construction in the city and more than half (57 percent) of the newly occupied office space in the Puget Sound region between 2010 and 2018.
