Our downtown Safety Ambassadors are on the ground seven days a week in six downtown neighborhoods assisting visitors, residents, workers and homeless individuals. From providing directions to out-of-towners, to aiding downtown’s unsheltered population, this dedicated team helps keep downtown safe, welcoming and livable.

The MID-funded Safety Team provides the following services:

  • Customer service and wayfinding
  • Transit information
  • Safety escorts
  • Referrals to human services
  • Coordination to clean debris from sidewalks
  • Public safety information and crime prevention through environmental design services for ratepayers

A big thanks to all ambassadors who have braved a very wet winter to provide service in our parks, public spaces and to residents, employees, visitors and people in need downtown.

Outreach Team Ambassador of the Month: Michelle

Michelle Jones brings a contagious passion to the Outreach Team and deep, abiding care for everyone she comes in contact with.

Michelle joined the Outreach team in Nov. 2018, and her impact was immediately felt across the Metropolitan Improvement District. She receives regular accolades for her special ability to gain trust and draw those in need close to her. Simply put, say those who work with her: “She’s awesome.”

Michelle recently demonstrated exemplary talent as she coordinated care for a complex case involving chronic, severe and persistent mental illness. Michelle was able to establish rapport with a person in crisis, and continues to be instrumental in facilitating care.

“Michelle is an absolute godsend,” said one case manager. “I don’t think we could build trust if it wasn’t for Michelle’s introductions and joining us for outreach visits.”
