The Downtown Seattle Association  is thrilled to invite you to submit a proposal in response to the attached RFP for the Occidental Square Kiosk.

DSA is seeking a pop-up vendor for daily operations inside the Occidental Square Kiosk. Services, art installations, gallery displays and more are welcome for morning, midday and afternoon offerings. High standards of cleanliness and customer service and compliance with all health, safety and licensing is required.

The opportunity

  • We have an activation-ready kiosk in the heart of Occidental Square, and we want local businesses to use it.
  • There is no prescribed use. We’re looking for ideas, with the main goal being that the kiosk is open and active every day. Rotating or shared use by multiple businesses is possible.
  • This is an interest survey, not a formal RFP. We want to hear what’s possible and shape an arrangement around the ideas.

About Occidental Square

  • A historic half-acre public park in Pioneer Square, shaded by mature London Plane trees and framed by galleries, boutiques, cafés and eateries.
  • Programmed year-round by DSA/MID in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation.
  • More than 450,000 visitors last year, including workers, residents, tourists and event crowds (art walks, markets, the “March to the Match” before Sounders games, etc).

The kiosk

  • Enclosed space of about 16′ × 11″ with cement flooring.
  • Three service windows.
  • Four exterior flaps for daily opening and closing.
  • Three interior counters.
  • 50-amp electrical service with standard 120V outlets.
  • Overhead pavilion area adjacent to the kiosk.
  • Storage, trash service and restroom access (at neighboring locations) provided by DSA.

What we’re open to

  • Any use. Examples: food and beverage, retail or maker goods, art or gallery pop-ups, information or service booths, wellness, community or nonprofit programming.
  • Schedule. Full-time, part-time, seasonal or rotating. Flexible hours are fine as long as the kiosk is open consistently. A single, long-term tenant is preferred.
  • Uses that draw people in. We especially welcome ideas that create interaction, activation, customers and foot traffic at the kiosk.

The basics

  • Term: Flexible. We’re happy to start with a short pilot and build from there.
  • Fees: Non-commercial activity may carry little or no fees. Commercial activity in the kiosk may result in a license fee or a percentage of sales, per Seattle Parks and Recreation policy. All
revenue generated in the park is reinvested in park operations and activations.
  • Agreement: Any arrangement will be a sublicense with DSA, subject to our License Agreement with SPR.
  • Operator responsibilities: Staffing the space, keeping it clean and presentable and providing any equipment, furnishings, branding and point-of-sale systems (subject to DSA approval).
  • Requirements by use type: A city of Seattle business license (if applicable), insurance and any permits specific to your activity (e.g., King County Public Health for food, WSLCB for alcohol).
