Creating Holiday Magic in Downtown Seattle

Visitors at Westlake Park during the holidays

Thanks to support from MID ratepayers and numerous sponsors, the DSA/MID helped ensure downtown was festive and vibrant during the holidays with a variety of free, family-friendly activities in DSA-managed downtown parks.

The season kicked off with the annual Tree Lighting Celebration, which drew thousands of people to Westlake Park on Friday, Nov. 29. The event featured live music, the lighting of the iconic Holiday Star and a spectacular fireworks show. Santa Saturdays brought families together for free photos, face painting, live caroling and more at Westlake Park.

Jingle Bell Jam concerts rocked the park, and at Occidental Square in Pioneer Square, the Wintry Wonderland Ice Skating rink offered free skating to people of all ages and included guest appearances. Bell Street and Pioneer Square parks were also activated during the holidays.

MID-funded activations continue with a Lunar New Year event in late January and a BE Great celebration honoring Black History Month in February. To stay informed about park activities, sign up for the DSA/MID Park Newsletter.
