Downtown buildings, parking garages and other edifices will soon be home to vibrant pops of color thanks to the Office of Arts & Culture’s Hope Corps’ Downtown Seattle Mural Project. The mission of Hope Corps is to support economic recovery for Seattle’s creative workforce by connecting artists with opportunities that contribute to the well-being of Seattle.

A component of Mayor Harrell’s Downtown Activation Plan, the mural project harnessed the resources of DSA, Belltown United, SCIDpda, SODO BIA, Visit Seattle and the Wing Luke Museum to connect artists with property owners. All told, the effort will produce 36 installations in Belltown, the Retail Core, Pioneer Square, SODO and Chinatown-International District.

“Public art — pieces big and small — helps bring more vibrancy to downtown and is another reason for people to explore the heart of the city,” said DSA President & CEO Jon Scholes. “These monuments to creativity are coming together at a great moment during our revitalization – with more summer tourists, local visitors, residents and workers coming downtown and more international guests on the way in 2026. Our sincere thanks to the artists and property owners who came together to make this outdoor art gallery happen.”

A number of the Downtown Seattle Mural Project artists collaborated with DSA in 2020 and 2021 to brighten boarded-up storefronts and provide inspiration early in the pandemic. That effort generated more than 230 murals in downtown by March 2021.

Maintenance of the Downtown Seattle Mural Project pieces through 2026 is included in the Hope Corps funding, keeping these pieces in place for years to come. For information on mural locations, participating artists, and events, visit visitseattle.org/hopecorpsmurals.
