Reimagining Westlake Park: A Vision for the Future of Downtown
Posted on

Westlake Park, which is managed by DSA through an agreement with the city, is getting an exciting upgrade under the Seattle Parks Foundation’s Reimagine Westlake initiative.
The project aims to modernize this civic gathering space, creating a vibrant, accessible public space for residents, visitors, transit riders and workers. With a focus on sustainability, safety and community engagement, the redesign will address long-term needs while ensuring Westlake Park remains a welcoming hub for games, music, food trucks, events and kids’ activities.
DSA works to create a safe, clean and welcoming environment across downtown, including at Westlake Park, through services funded by MID ratepayers and provided by downtown ambassadors, such as cleaning, safety and hospitality, and programming of parks and public spaces.
“We strongly support the overall vision for the park and are eager to see it evolve into a dynamic space that will be integral to future events like the 2026 World Cup and beyond,” said Jennifer Casillas, vice president of public realm & ambassador operations for DSA/MID. “Westlake Park has always been a critical space for our downtown community, and we’re proud of our ongoing partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation and the mayor’s office to activate the park over the years. It will play a pivotal role in the many exciting events coming to Seattle.”
With a phased approach to the project — including fundraising, design and eventual construction — the future of Westlake Park looks promising, and we’re excited to see how it will shape the future of our downtown.
