Lunar New Year Celebration Returns Downtown
Posted on

Downtown Seattle will once again come alive with color, rhythm and celebration as we welcome the Year of the Horse at DSA/MID’s Lunar New Year Celebration on Sunday, Feb. 22.
This beloved event brings the energy of traditional lion dancing to multiple downtown locations, inviting people to experience the celebration as it moves through several neighborhoods. The Mak Fai lion dance performers will appear at three sites this year:
- 1 p.m.: Pioneer Park
- 2 p.m.: First & Pike
- 3 p.m.: Bell Street Park
Each performance will feature dynamic choreography, drumbeats and acrobatics meant to bring good fortune and drive away bad luck for the year ahead.
The celebration at First & Pike will offer even more to enjoy, including fun giveaways and special delights. Attendees can look forward to treats from Bloom Coffee, along with red envelope giveaways — a nod to a cherished Lunar New Year tradition.

Last year’s DSA/MID Lunar New Year Celebration drew large, enthusiastic crowds, filling sidewalks and the First & Pike plaza with spectators eager to take part. This year promises to build on that momentum, offering another joyful moment to gather, celebrate culture and spend time downtown.
Whether you catch one performance or follow the dancers through all three locations, Lunar New Year is a wonderful opportunity to experience downtown Seattle at its most vibrant.
