Public Safety

Public safety is a top priority for DSA. We believe downtown should be a place where everyone feels safe to live, work or visit. In recent years, we’ve worked with members and partners to elevate for public officials and the media the impact that repeat criminal activity and persistent street disorder have on the health and vitality of downtown and our city.

Through recent DSA-commissioned research, we know public safety is a top priority for all Seattleites and a key consideration affecting whether people choose to come downtown for work or recreation. Getting locals and visitors to return downtown and ensuring a full revitalization of the center city depends on improving both the reality and perception of safety in the center city.

Toward that end, DSA remains in regular communication with city officials, advocating for increased resources for those in need, a fully staffed police department and attention to parts of downtown that are persistently challenging. With support from downtown property owners we also fund downtown safety ambassadors and private security officers within the Metropolitan Improvement District.
