Overview
The mission of the Metropolitan Improvement District (MID) Public Space Program is to assist in creating an active and welcoming environment for all who frequent Downtown Seattle. This includes workers, residents, tourists and organizations that serve the downtown community.

The Public Space Supervisor is responsible for the daily supervision of the Park Ambassadors in Westlake Park, Occidental Square, Pine Street Plaza, McGraw/Westlake Squares, Pier 62, Bell Street Park and other potential locations. Included in these responsibilities are planning, scheduling, directing, coordinating, evaluation, training and monitoring of the Park Ambassador team. Additionally, the Public Space Supervisor assists in the daily operations and on the ground logistics when needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervision/Programming Coordination
  • Manage and communicate with Park Ambassadors to ensure compliance with policies, rules and regulations of the MID and DSA led initiatives.
  • Directly supervise a team of Park Ambassadors and the Assistant Supervisor including management of the employment process, including recruiting, hiring, timesheet approval and payroll processing, providing support, mentoring, employee evaluations, terminations, etc.
  • Draft agendas and facilitate team meetings.
  • Schedule Park Ambassadors and Assistant Supervisor shifts, manage schedule requests, employee leaves, etc. in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of the short and long-term activities.
  • Review various internal parks and public space calendars and communicate with Park Ambassadors,
  • Assistant Supervisor, Program Managers, Specialists, etc. to ensure appropriate staffing is scheduled.
  • Provide weekend coverage and supervision for full Park Ambassador teams.

Technology/Data Collection/Reporting

  • Work with other DSA/MID program management on implementing technological tools (currently Fulcrum) to obtain accurate counts/data for reporting purposes.
  • Assist in daily data collection of key statistics through the year to support additional investment and community involvement.
  • Co-manage the bi-annual Parks survey process from creation, implementation, data recording and reporting out results.
  • Respond to employee end of the day and accident/incident reports immediately and follow up with the Assistant Supervisor, employee, internal management and Seattle Parks and Recreation as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with Clean and Safe teams, Seattle Parks and Recreation and Seattle Police
  • Department to address compliance, concerns and areas of need.
  • Act as liaison and ensure compliance of food truck vendor contract management, schedule and compliance, if/when applicable.
  • Act as liaison and ensure compliance of third-party security contract management, schedule and compliance, if/when applicable.
  • Act as liaison to SPD as needed, with contracted emphasis patrols, for special events, etc.
  • Review all SPD and security reports daily, addressing and sharing concerns and pertinent information as needed.

Employee Support/Training/Misc.

  • Assess the need for employee guidelines and training to facilitate effective performance.
  • Advise Parks & Public Space team of trends and activity within parks and public spaces.
  • Regularly attend deployments, team and department meetings as needed.
  • Meet with the Assistant Supervisor and Park Ambassadors on a regular basis.
  • Work in an on-call capacity as needed.
  • Other commensurate duties as assigned.
  • Represent the organization to internal and external audiences in a positive and highly professional manner.

Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience.
  • Able to supervise and mentor a large team of ambassadors up to 15.
  • Self-motivated, energetic learner and leader with a good sense of humor.
  • Able to multi-task and work on several projects at the same time, must be able to prioritize.
  • Highly organized with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Strong ability to work and interact with the public.
  • Must possess a solid work ethic and the ability to follow instructions.
  • Required to maintain a neat and clean appearance.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Access to a working cell phone.
  • Must be willing to work outside year-round in Seattle’s changing weather for ten-hour shifts.
  • Knowledge of downtown Seattle and its community a plus.

Job Location and Conditions:

Work will be split between the field and an office setting. Locations include Westlake Park, Occidental Square, Pine Street Plaza, McGraw/Westlake Squares, Pier 62, Bell St. Park and various other parks and public spaces.
Must be available to work early mornings, days, evening, weekends and holidays.

Compensation:

Salary DOE, $75 cell phone stipend per month, plus employer-paid medical, dental, vision benefits, paid time off, short and long-term disability, 401K retirement plan and annual ORCA Pass once eligibility period is successfully met.
