Overview
The mission of the Metropolitan Improvement District (MID) Safety Program is to assist in creating a safe and welcoming environment to all who frequent the Downtown Seattle MID. This includes tourists, employees, residents, and organizations that serve the downtown community and the vulnerable street population. The Downtown Supervisor – Safe Team is responsible for the daily supervision of the Metropolitan Improvement District’s Downtown Ambassadors – Safe Team. Included in these responsibilities are planning, directing, coordination, evaluation, training, and monitoring of the Downtown Ambassador – Safe Team staff.

Position Overview
The Downtown Ambassador Team Supervisor is responsible for, but not limited to overseeing the deployment of Ambassador teams, scheduling, coaching, hiring and performance management.

Duties and Tasks

  • Assist in the planning and coordination of the downtown Ambassador team’s daily efforts.
  • Manage and communicate with the downtown Ambassador Team to ensure compliance with organization policies and standards.
  • Conduct daily Downtown Ambassador team meetings and ensure Downtown Ambassadors are effectively deployed and have the necessary equipment and supplies to perform duties
  • Oversee and monitor employee activities to ensure performance standards and productivity levels are maintained. These patrols are provided by walking, driving a vehicle, or riding a bike
  • Ability to coach and mentor individuals who may or may not have had a past criminal background or addiction challenges
  • Conduct appraisals and formal evaluations of staff performance. Assess and counsel employees using coaching, corrective action, and training to facilitate effective performance.
  • Assist in recruiting/hiring, selecting, orienting, and training employees; developing personal growth opportunities
  • Assist with in-house training, including new hire training and team training.
  • Subject matter expert including managing assigned special projects, for example – bike program, Narcan, etc.
  • Identify, report, and correct conditions that adversely impact the downtown or those working, living, and visiting
  • Review Downtown Ambassador daily logs, accident reports, etc. for accuracy and completeness.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use/type of equipment to increase the efficiency of maintenance
  • Represent the MID and the Public Safety Program at special events and community meetings in a positive and highly professional manner.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with local government service providers, property managers, merchants, and members of the Downtown Seattle Association staff.
  • Assist in resolving customer complaints via phone, email, or in person
  • Advise management of trends and activity within the MID.
  • Other commensurate duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two plus years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Ability to consistently exemplify MID/DSA core values: Collaboration, Perseverance, Innovation, Excellence, and Integrity.
  • Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License, must be able to be insured by organization insurance carrier
  • Basic knowledge of equipment maintenance is a plus.
  • Maintain a neat and clean appearance
  • Self-motivated, energetic learner
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal, written and non-verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals who have barriers to employment
  • Must be able to work in a fast-pace and ever-changing environment
  • Highly organized with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Proficient in Windows, MS Word, Excel and Outlook

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work Environment – Work outdoors in all weather conditions, handling potentially hazardous waste.

Physical Demands – Standing, walking, bending, squatting 6-8 hours a day, holding, carrying, and operating leaf vacuums, blowers, and power washers. Operating ATLV’s and Green Machines. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Employment Details

DSA is committed to internal and market equity. The hourly range for this position is $25.24 – $36.59. Salary is determined based on internal and market equity, internal and market data/salary ranges, and the applicant’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We will hire at the beginning of the salary range to allow future salary growth based on an employee’s performance, professional development, and increases in responsibilities and duties.
